NOW PAC is excited to endorse California Attorney General, Kamala Harris, in her race for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA).

Throughout her legal career Harris has focused on protecting all Californians, especially women, children and families. While a prosecutor with the Alameda District Attorney’s office she specialized in child sexual assault cases, and while the District Attorney of San Francisco Harris led the career criminal unit division on children and families. As the Attorney General for the state of California since 2011 she has focused on finding innovative approaches to fight crime, and fight for consumers and equal rights for all1.

Harris has been a longtime, vocal supporter of Planned Parenthood and in July she announced that her office would investigate the Center for Medical Progress, the group behind the highly edited videos falsifying information about Planned Parenthood’s process of providing fetal tissue for medical research, rather than investigating Planned Parenthood about the false claims. After Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) proposed an amendment to the federal highway bill that would defund Planned Parenthood, AG Kamala Harris continued to show her support and tweeted that “the notion that some in DC want to hold CA highway funding hostage in order to defund Planned Parenthood is deeply troubling.”2

She is also dedicated to working towards racial justice especially in regards to the immigrant population. During a recent interview with The San Francisco Chronicle Harris voiced her support for enacting comprehensive immigration reform and criticized Republicans for “creating this bogeyman that somehow we need to protect ourselves from” by “talking about undocumented immigrants as though they’re criminals” and reiterated that she’s a “career prosecutor” who knows what a criminal looks like and that “an undocumented immigrant is not a criminal.”3 Harris also talked about the need to put immigrants on a path towards legalization.

Harris is a dedicated feminist. Her efforts to rely on the facts of the situation and her work to improve communities and community relationships make Kamala Harris an excellent candidate for the U.S. Senate.
