Suzan DelBene (D-WA, 1st U.S. House)

Representative Suzan DelBene is undoubtedly the strongest feminist candidate running in the 1st District of Washington. She has centered her campaign on a woman’s rights agenda, which is especially essential when women everywhere are facing right wing attacks. During DelBene’s previous technology career at the executive level at Microsoft, she got used to being one of the few women at the table. Since being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012, she has been working to help women shatter the glass ceiling that has been holding us down by attending events such as the Women Rule Summit 2014: Upping the Game, where she and other successful congresswomen and entrepreneurs discussed how to change the ratio of women in the tech industry and how to raise the next generation of women leaders.

DelBene knows that “when women succeed, America succeeds,” and she has been using that philosophy to get real work done in a Republican Congress that usually believes in a small government, except for when it comes to dictating what a woman can and cannot do with her body. An outspoken feminist, DelBene has repeatedly shown her support for Planned Parenthood and abortion rights, and participated in a day of celebration for Roe v. Wade. Additionally, she has thrown her support behind marriage equality, and was one of the original co-sponsors of the Equality Act, a bill aimed at prohibiting discrimination on the basis on sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation. DelBene’s support does not stop at the office doors either, as she recently spoke at her Chief of Staff’s wedding to his husband, announcing that “love is love” for everyone to hear. Suzan DelBene is a role model for our movement towards equality, and NOW PAC looks forward to working with her and her campaign to ensure that our work can continue.
